Early-season college football often lends itself to games that are simply lopsided matchups, no matter how fans slice it. One such matchup will take place when the Kent State Golden Flashes take on the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee. Kent State has now lost two consecutive games, most recently dropping a contest to Buffalo by a heartbreaking three points. A matchup with the seventh-ranked Seminoles, who just put up 77 points against East Texas A&M, will almost certainly produce a bigger loss for the Golden Flashes this weekend.

Like many smaller programs, Kent State relies on its offense to keep it in games. Quarterback Dru DeShields has been solid to start the campaign, tossing four touchdowns without turning the ball over. However, the defense has struggled mightily, allowing a combined 93 points in its last two games. No player has more than a single sack or interception, emphasizing the lack of playmakers on that side of the ball. A unit that just allowed 31 points to Buffalo will almost certainly allow points in bunches to one of the best offenses in the nation here.

The Seminoles are off to one of the best starts in program history. An unranked FSU team hosted the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 1 and promptly delivered a massive upset, knocking off the top-ten team by two touchdowns. The win against East Texas A&M is not nearly as impressive, but it did give Florida State an opportunity to showcase an excellent, multifaceted offensive attack.

Kent State vs Florida State Prediction and Pick

Michael Briggs of Winners and Whiners writes, "Florida State had no issues running up the score in its last game, even with a run-heavy offense. I don't expect a different result this week, especially with FSU coming off a bye week. The Seminoles have played with a chip on their shoulders and will be ready to make another statement against a Golden Flashes squad that has really struggled against FBS opponents over the last few seasons and lost by 48 earlier this season to Texas Tech. Kent State kept it close last week, which should get Florida State's full attention in this one. That's a scary thought for Kent supporters. The Pick: Seminoles -44.5."
