FSU football is officially on a roller-coaster ride, one that went up with 2023's championship season, dropped like a stone in the cellar campaign of 2024, and then shot upward like a missile with the Seminoles' epic upset win over the Alabama Crimson Tide last week.
With the new season's hype at a fever pitch and the hard news of an FSU player's brush with tragedy fills headlines, it's time for Mike Norvell's squad to steady the ride against a far easier opponent than Alabama. The East Texas A&M Lions of the FCS will pay a brave visit to Florida State this Saturday at noon EST.
East Texas A&M will be playing its second game in a row against the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Lions earned respect by holding Southern Methodist to a modest day on offense in last weekend's 42-13 loss.

Sportsbooks were slow to release odds for Florida State versus East Texas A&M. It wasn't because they think that FSU's debut upset was a fluke. More likely, they're not sure what to do with the upstart Lions, who covered a 50-plus point underdog's spread with ease in last week's contest at SMU. In addition, Florida State is hosting the game in a somber mood due to the plight of linebacker Ethan Pritchard, currently fighting to recover after getting shot as a bystander in a violent incident in Havana, Florida.
Florida State won't be resting many starters against East Texas A&M, although the game is enough of a mismatch that a sad day full of prayers for Pritchard wouldn't cause the Seminoles to lose. Liam Rooney of the Tallahassee Democrat reports by way of Yahoo! Sports that "there are few changes on the (Week 2) depth chart," adding that "true (freshmen) Daryll and Mandrell Desir are listed as backups" on FSU's defensive line chart, a clue that the 'Noles won't treat Saturday like a Homecoming Game.
