If the Tampa Bay Rays can't catch the New York Yankees or the Houston Astros, the least they can do is spoil the Seattle Mariners' quest for the postseason. Tampa Bay dinged Seattle for 13 hits and 10 runs in Labor Day's series opener, scoring a 10-2 blowout for their first victory over Seattle in five ball games.

The Rays and Mariners will square off again in a middle match this evening, set to begin by 7:35 p.m. EST at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The Tampa Bay Rays can get back to .500 at 69-69 with a second win.

Betting odds for tonight's rematch are essentially deadlocked with equal numbers of wagers touting either team. At press time, the Seattle Mariners have the slightest of edges in moneyline sportsbook action.

Spread

  • Rays +1.5 (-186)
  • Mariners -1.5 (+144)

Moneyline

  • Rays -103
  • Mariners -112

Total

  • Over 8 (-102)
  • Under 8 (-116)

The above data was collected on Sept. 2, 2025, and may have changed since writing.

  • Tampa Bay's win on Monday snapped a four-game losing skid in the matchup.
  • The Rays have a three-game winning streak at their home ball park.
  • The Seattle Mariners are 1-8 in their last nine road games.

Tampa Bay Rays vs Seattle Mariners Predictions and Picks

Tampa Bay has a solid chance to at least catch Seattle, which is flailing badly away from home. Seattle has won only one of its last nine road games, nearly getting swept in Cleveland in its previous series.

The Rays will hope to clinch a series win with another mix of familiar and less-famous names. Third baseman Junior Caminero and outfielder Jake Mangum combined for six hits against the Mariners on Monday, but it was catcher Nick Fortes and shortstop Tristan Gray who hit balls out of the park. Drew Rasmussen carries a 10-5 record into a start on the mound for Tampa Bay, opposed by the excellent Brian Woo of Seattle. Rotowire, syndicating via CBS Sports, reported that "Rasmussen missed out on his 11th win … when the Rays bullpen blew a 3-2 lead" in the hurler's otherwise good game against Cleveland last week.

Seattle's trending so badly on the road that Tampa Bay's lack of greater betting action feels like a fluke. Pick the home team to clinch a series victory with a win over the Mariners today.
